ENDORSEMENTS

“Mark DeVine has provided a most important service for the Christian community at-large with this illuminating work on Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This volume provides an insightful and well written account of Bonhoeffer’s life and work. Moreover, DeVine combines his historical interpretation with compelling applications for the church of our day. I heartily recommend this significant publication.”

“Here is a fresh, accurate and compelling portrayal of Bonhoeffer, his life and thought, written by a bright Southern Baptist theologian who knows his subject well. Mark DeVine makes Bonhoeffer come alive and commends him as a tonic for today’s self-satisfied church that needs to learn again the meaning of obedience, discipleship, community, suffering, and hope.”

Bonhoeffer is truly a facinating man. I have read much of his work and my favorite is “The Cost of Discipleship.” The first couple of chapters should make religious men around the world shake. The dichotomy with Bonhoeffer is that he found it impossible to share his faith in prison, seems strange. And if you read his work it defies logic that he would be involved in a plot to kill Hitler.

    Dr. Devine,

Just today I heard part of an interview you did with Dr. Richard Land regarding Bonhoeffer. It was spectacular! For reasons beyond the scope of this venue (and likely beyond the scope of your interest!), your words about Bonhoeffer were a sort of gift to me. Indeed, your words - and Bonhoeffer’s - are a gift to all true Christians. Thanks.

Thank you very much for bringing Bonhoeffer to light for mainstream Christians. He is one of my favorite writers, especially on Christian community. I think he has a lot to say to evangelicals if we have ears to listen without prejudging what he has written.
